2nd or 3rd class?
| As on our historical predecessors we separate between 2nd and 3rd class in our carriages. The difference lies entirely in seating comfort: |
|
3rd class - Wooden benches/seats 2nd class - A higher level of comfort in the form of cushioned seats and a more lavish interior with curtains etc. |
| This difference in standard is reflected in that the price for 2nd class is higher than for 3rd class. |
|
The class can be seen on the outside of the carriages, if there
are no markings the entire carriage is 3rd class. The open
summer carriages are 3rd class. 1st class existed only on the longdistance trains on the larger railways and was a pure luxury class. 1956 UIC (International Railway Union) changed the class system. The old 1st class was abolished, 2nd class became 1st class and 3rd class became 2nd class. Then in most cases 3rd class had cushioned seats. Todays 2nd class at SJ is a modern equivalent to our 3rd class. |
